Dog Gear

Some might think it's strange to have a page dedicated to Dog Gear but Winston loves getting out on the trails and we love having him.  We are also careful to ensure that he is healthy, safe and having fun. So here are a few things that go along with Winston and maybe a few wish list items too!

We got the Ruffwear Summit Trex boots for Winston this winter.  It has been great.  Winston clearly does not have pain when walking in the snow, ice and salt.  It also decreases our paw washing time!

These Dog is Good brand water bottles are great….however, Winston refuses to drink from them.  I was really excited to buy one because he likes to drink from my Nalgene when I pour out water, unfortunately, that's where it ends.  Despite multiple attempts he refuses to drink from this.  So, we use it to carry his water and continue to carry his collapsible bowl.

We have a collapsible fabric bowl like this one.  They can be found on Amazon for around $15 each depending on the brand.  The pro's include the ability to collapse and it holds the water well.  I like to keep it in my car just in case.  The con's are that it seems to want to fold in on itself sometimes and it takes a while to dry.  I think we may look into getting the pop out type bowls next to try so we don't have dripping water bowls bouncing off our packs.
Here is Winston sporting his Ruffwear Palisades Pack.  This pack is awesome.  It is important to have a good fit.  The pack can be removed to just utilize the harness.  This will be important when we stop for breaks to take the pack off and let him rest.  The pack has two collapsible water bottles and can also be compressed with straps to make the pack fit more closely to the dog.  We are starting out with just using the harness to get him used to it, then we will add an empty pack, then slowly add more weight.
